  • He is worthy

"I will call on the Lord who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies." II Samuel 22:4

The word 'worthy' has several meanings: deserving, honourable, esteemed, reverence, important enough, having value, merit.

The word 'worship' is an English word meaning worthship - denotes the worthiness of the individual receiving the special honour due to his worth.

The Lord Jesus alone is worthy to be praised and worshipped because He is the true and living God. He is worthy to be praised in any place, circumstance and anytime. He is the Lord ruling, reigning and unchanging.

We use the phrase "Lord you are worthy" mostly everyday. It has become a part of us. Many of us use the phrase freely and commonly but do we really know and understand what it is all about when we say "He is worthy."

A look at II Samuel 22:4 and Psalm 71:1-18 lets us know that David had a revelation of God's worthiness. No matter what happened to David or what difficulties he faced, his heart was filled with praise for God. Even his enemies could not prevent him from worshipping the Lord. The Lord is still worthy.

Paul and Silas worshipped and praised the Lord in the jailhouse because He was worthy even in their sufferings. (Acts 16:23-26)

When Paul was afflicted with an infirmity he prayed three times to the Lord to be relieved of it. but the Lord told him, "My grace is sufficient for thee..." Yet Paul counted the Lord being worthy even in an unanswered prayer. (II Corinthians 12:7-10)

The righteous man Job lost his possessions, wealth, children, health and the support of his wife all in one day. Yet he worshipped the Lord because to Job, the Lord was still worthy even in his loss. (Job 1:1-22)

When Daniel knew of the conspiracy to accuse him of praying to his God, he still knelt down upon his knees and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he did aforetime. Daniel counted God worthy even in danger of his life. (Daniel 6:10)

Jesus deserves our praise. He has a right to our worship. He has a right to our time. Praise is due to Him. He is always God and will always be. James 2:7 speaks about the worthy name by the which we are called. The Name Jesus is a worthy name. It is the only name that is worthy in all of existence. Let us all love, exalt, mention, forget not, use, baptize and proclaim that worthy name which is Jesus Christ. I Chronicles 16:29 tells us to give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name.

Jesus is worthy of our sacrifices - fastings, prayer, time, service. Let us always give Him praise, compliments and credit because He alone is worthy.

When a certain Syrophencian woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit fell at the feet of Jesus and begged Him to cast the devil out of her daughter, Jesus refused to help and even referred to the woman as being a dog (gentile). The woman replied, "Yea Lord, yet the dogs under the table eat of the childrens' crumbs." Jesus was touched by her great faith and cast the devil out of her daughter. The woman had greatly humbled herself before Jesus and stooped so low. Jesus was worthy of her humility. (Mark 7:24-30)

When Jesus was having a meal in one of the Pharisee's house a sinner woman came and stood at His feet, wept and washed the feet with her own tears then wiped them with her hair, kissed His feet and anointed them with a precious and expensive ointment. Jesus was worthy of her devotion. (Luke 7:36-39)

Let us not forget to remember that whatever happens to us; whatever happens around us; whatever troubles us; whatever sickness is upon us; or anything that is negative and gives cause to worry - Jesus is always Worthy of our devotion, praise, thanks giving, worship and time. His love towards us is so great and deep.

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." (Revelation 4:11)
