Abraham was the only one in his family the believed in the One true God. The rest of his family were idol worshippers.
You may be the only one in your family who is a Christian -- a worshipper of the one true God, Jesus Christ. If so, be faithful to Jesus, like Abraham was!
God had a plan for Abraham--just like He always does for everybody that believes in Him. God wanted Abraham to be the father of a nation that would believe in the One true God! That is why God commanded him to leave his idol-worshipping home, and go to another country, and then God promised him a special blessing:
"And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great: and thou shalt be a blessing
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12:2-3).
This was a promise that from the seed of Abraham, Jesus would be born. It is He who blesses us with salvation, healing -- and all we really need!
Later God told Abraham:
"Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be" (Genesis 15:5).
Abraham was already 75 when God first appeared unto him, and now he was even older. Yet we read, "And he believed in the LORD; andhe counted it to him for righteousness" (verse 6).
The Bible is a book full of promises. Sometimes those promises look hard and difficult for God to fulfill. But because He IS God -- He cannot lie! People may promise us certain things, even sometimes those who love us, and they cannot fulfill their promises. But God always fulfills His promises.
When Abraham was one hundred years old, his wife, Sarah, gave birth to baby Isaac. God always keeps His promises.
